Small Space Project

Julia, a colleague of my husband, moved back to Sydney, Australia after a two year stint in the U.S. Julia purchased an apartment conveniently located by her work in the heart of Sydney. Once construction was completed, she asked if I could come make it "hers." I had been to Sydney a couple of years before, so naturally I jumped at the opportunity to go again!
Armed with only the floor plan, plans were made by visualizing Julia's space. I reached out online to Sydney furniture and lighting stores because of the time difference. Fortunately, the associates were willing to help with ordering, measurements and coordinating deliveries. As I prepared for the install, I packed several suitcases of accessories, drapery, hardware and even my toolbox!
Upon arrival, I assumed since the space was small and the floors a beautiful parquet, the apartment would feel "cozy." Instead, the space felt cold and industrial - which is sometimes wonderful, just not the retreat Julia was wanting. The remedy? We headed to a paint store. It's amazing how paint makes such an impact! As the paint was drying, Julia and I unpacked. We sorted through the "for sures," the "maybes," and the "uh-uhhs," as her space and storage would dictate her decor. After sorting, we had the inventory and measurements necessary to shop for the appropriate furniture, display and storage pieces.
